विशेषण (Adjective)
🎯 शुरुआत: एक शब्द जो तस्वीर बदल देता है
"राम एक लड़का है।" — इस वाक्य में लड़का कैसा है? कुछ पता नहीं।
अब पढ़िए: "राम एक होनहार लड़का है।" — बस एक शब्द जुड़ा और पूरी तस्वीर बन गई!
यही शब्द — होनहार — विशेषण है। अंग्रेज़ी में: "Ram is an intelligent boy."
परीक्षा में Adjective सिर्फ़ "परिभाषा रटने" का टॉपिक नहीं है। SSC CHSL, CGL Tier-1 और RRB NTPC में इससे Error Spotting, Fill in the Blanks और Sentence Improvement — तीनों रूपों में सवाल आते हैं। और परीक्षक सबसे ज़्यादा कंफ्यूज़ करता है Degree (तुलना) और Adjective vs Adverb में।
📌 सीखने के उद्देश्य
इस अध्याय के बाद आप:
- Adjective की परिभाषा और उसके 8 प्रकार पहचान सकेंगे।
- Positive, Comparative, Superlative Degree के नियम और अपवाद लागू कर सकेंगे।
- the + Adjective (the rich, the poor) जैसे विशेष प्रयोग समझेंगे।
- Adjective और Adverb के बीच का फर्क (She sings *sweet* ❌ / *sweetly* ✅) पकड़ सकेंगे।
- परीक्षक के 3 सबसे आम जालों को तुरंत पहचानेंगे।
1️⃣ Adjective क्या है?
परिभाषा: Adjective वह शब्द है जो संज्ञा (Noun) या सर्वनाम (Pronoun) की विशेषता बताता है — यानी उसकी गुण, संख्या, मात्रा या पहचान बताता है।
Adjective तीन सवालों का जवाब देता है:
- कैसा? (What kind?) → a *brave* soldier
- कितना? (How much/many?) → *some* water, *five* boys
- कौन-सा? (Which?) → *this* book, *that* man
वाक्य में स्थिति (दो जगह):
- Attributive (संज्ञा से पहले): She is a *beautiful* girl.
- Predicative (क्रिया के बाद): The girl is *beautiful*.
> ⚠️ कुछ Adjective सिर्फ़ Predicative होते हैं — *afraid, asleep, awake, alive, ill*।
> "an asleep child" ❌ → "The child is asleep." ✅
🧠 Active Recall: बिना ऊपर देखे बताइए — Adjective किन तीन सवालों का जवाब देता है? "afraid" जैसे शब्द वाक्य में कहाँ आते हैं?
2️⃣ Adjective के प्रकार (Kinds of Adjectives)
| # | प्रकार | काम | उदाहरण |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Proper Adjective | Proper Noun से बना | *Indian* culture, *French* wine |
| 2 | Descriptive / Quality | गुण बताता है | *honest, tall, clever* |
| 3 | Quantity (अनिश्चित मात्रा) | कितना (गिनती नहीं) | *some, much, little, enough* |
| 4 | Numeral (संख्यावाचक) | गिनती/क्रम | *five* boys, *first* prize |
| 5 | Demonstrative | इशारा करता है | *this, that, these, those* |
| 6 | Distributive | एक-एक करके | *each, every, either, neither* |
| 7 | Interrogative | प्रश्न पूछता है | *which* book? *what* time? |
| 8 | Possessive | स्वामित्व | *my, your, his, her, their* |
परीक्षा-पॉइंट: Demonstrative Adjective और Demonstrative Pronoun में फर्क —
- *This* book is mine. → "this" के बाद noun है → Adjective
- *This* is mine. → "this" खुद noun की जगह है → Pronoun
🧠 Active Recall: "Each boy got a prize" में "each" किस प्रकार का Adjective है? "Whose pen is this?" में "whose" कौन-सा Adjective है?
3️⃣ Degree — तुलना के तीन स्तर (सबसे महत्वपूर्ण खंड)
| Degree | काम | उदाहरण |
|---|---|---|
| Positive | केवल गुण बताना (कोई तुलना नहीं) | Ram is *tall*. |
| Comparative | दो के बीच तुलना | Ram is *taller than* Shyam. |
| Superlative | तीन या अधिक में सबसे ऊपर | Ram is the *tallest* boy in the class. |
Degree बनाने के नियम
(क) -er / -est जोड़कर (छोटे शब्द):
- tall → taller → tallest
- brave → braver → bravest (अंतिम 'e' हटता है)
- big → bigger → biggest (अंतिम consonant दुगना)
(ख) more / most लगाकर (लंबे शब्द — आमतौर पर 2+ syllables):
- beautiful → more beautiful → most beautiful
- important → more important → most important
(ग) अनियमित (Irregular) — रटने ही पड़ेंगे:
| Positive | Comparative | Superlative |
|---|---|---|
| good | better | best |
| bad / ill | worse | worst |
| much / many | more | most |
| little | less | least |
| far | farther / further | farthest / furthest |
| old | older / elder | oldest / eldest |
| late | later / latter | latest / last |
⭐ 12 स्वर्ण नियम (Golden Rules of Degree)
- Comparative के साथ "than" ज़रूरी: He is taller *than* me. (❌ taller from me)
- Superlative से पहले "the": She is *the* best student.
- दो में से बेहतर चुनाव = "the + Comparative": Of the two sisters, Reena is *the taller*.
- Latin Comparatives (senior, junior, superior, inferior, prior, posterior, prefer) के साथ "to", "than" नहीं: He is senior *to* me. ❌ senior than me
- इन शब्दों की तुलना नहीं होती (Absolute Adjectives): *unique, perfect, universal, complete, extreme, chief, empty, round, square, dead* — ❌ "most unique" → ✅ "unique"
- "much + Comparative" ठीक, "very + Comparative" गलत: much better ✅ / very better ❌
- "very + Positive" और "much + Superlative": very good ✅ / much the best ✅
- दो गुणों की तुलना एक ही व्यक्ति में = more + Positive: She is *more wise than* beautiful. (❌ wiser than beautiful)
- "elder/eldest" केवल परिवार के सदस्यों के लिए, "than" नहीं लेता: He is my *elder* brother. (❌ elder than me) — बाकी सब जगह older/oldest + than।
- "later" = समय में बाद का; "latter" = क्रम में दूसरा (of the two): the *latter* part; he came *later*.
- "farther" = दूरी; "further" = अतिरिक्त/आगे: farther distance ✅ / further information ✅
- "one of the + Superlative + plural Noun": One of the *best players* (❌ best player) — noun बहुवचन रहेगा।
🧠 Active Recall: "senior" के साथ than क्यों नहीं लगता? "elder" और "older" में फर्क बताइए। "One of the best ___ (player/players)" — कौन सही?
4️⃣ the + Adjective = पूरा वर्ग (Noun की तरह प्रयोग)
जब Adjective से पहले the लगाकर उसे पूरे वर्ग के लिए प्रयोग करें, तो वह Plural Noun बन जाता है और Plural Verb लेता है:
- *The rich* should help *the poor*. (अमीरों को गरीबों की मदद करनी चाहिए)
- *The blind* deserve our sympathy.
- *The dead* cannot return.
❌ The rich is… → ✅ The rich are…
5️⃣ Adjective बनाम Adverb — परीक्षा का पसंदीदा जाल
नियम: क्रिया-विशेषण (Adverb) क्रिया (Verb) की विशेषता बताता है; Adjective संज्ञा की।
- She sings *sweetly*. ✅ (sings = verb → sweetly)
- She sings *sweet*. ❌
लेकिन! Linking Verbs (be, seem, look, feel, smell, taste, sound, appear, become) के बाद Adjective आता है, Adverb नहीं:
- The soup tastes *good*. ✅ (❌ tastes well)
- She looks *happy*. ✅
- I feel *bad* about it. ✅ (❌ feel badly — जब भावना की बात हो)
🧠 Active Recall: "The rose smells ___ (sweet/sweetly)" — क्या आएगा और क्यों?
⚠️ परीक्षक का जाल (Examiner's Traps)
> जाल 1 — "more + Comparative": ❌ "He is *more taller* than me." — taller में पहले से तुलना है, more दुगना कर देता है। ✅ "He is taller than me."
>
> जाल 2 — "than" की जगह "to": ❌ "She is senior *than* me." ✅ "She is senior *to* me." (Latin comparatives याद रखें: senior, junior, superior, inferior, prior, prefer)
>
> जाल 3 — "most unique": ❌ "This is the *most unique* painting." — unique का मतलब ही "अद्वितीय" है, इसकी तुलना असंभव। ✅ "This is a unique painting."
🔁 भाषाई कंट्रास्ट: हिंदी में ऐसा, अंग्रेज़ी में वैसा
| हिंदी सोच | गलत अंग्रेज़ी | सही अंग्रेज़ी | कारण |
|---|---|---|---|
| "वह मुझसे बड़ा है" (बड़ा = बड़ा भाई) | He is elder than me. | He is elder to me. / He is older than me. | elder के साथ than नहीं |
| "यह सबसे अच्छा है" | This is a best. | This is the best. | Superlative से पहले the |
| "मुझे चाय ज़्यादा पसंद है" | I like tea more better. | I like tea better. / I prefer tea. | more + comparative = दोहरी तुलना |
| "वह बहुत अच्छा गाती है" | She sings very good. | She sings very well. | गाने की क्रिया → Adverb (well) |
| "मैं तुमसे वरिष्ठ हूँ" | I am senior than you. | I am senior to you. | Latin comparative + to |
🧬 शब्द-जड़ें (Word Roots) — Vocabulary की चाबी
| मूल (Root) | अर्थ | बने शब्द |

📖 पठन बोध (इन्हीं roots के शब्दों के साथ)
> Artificial Intelligence: A Magnificent but Maligned Tool?
>
> Artificial Intelligence has brought magnificent changes to our daily lives. From microscopic medical diagnoses to multilingual translation apps, its benefits are visible everywhere. Yet critics warn of malicious uses — deepfakes that make false claims appear credible, and algorithms that magnify social divisions. The verdict is still out: whether AI remains a benevolent servant or becomes a threat depends on how carefully we verify its outputs and fortify our laws.
🧠 Mnemonic ट्रिक
Latin Comparatives याद रखने का मंत्र — "सुजु सुपर-इन प्रिय" (SJ-SIP):
Senior, Junior, Superior, Inferior, Prior, Prefer — इन सबके साथ "to" लगता है, "than" नहीं।
Irregular Degrees का मंत्र — "अच्छा-बुरा, थोड़ा-बहुत, दूर-देर-बूढ़ा":
good→better→best | bad→worse→worst | little→less→least | much→more→most | far→farther→farthest | late→later→latest | old→elder→eldest
